Vijay Darda along with his brother Rajendra took up the reigns of Lokmat, a Marathi daily newspaper launched from Nagpur on December 15, 1971. Today, under his chairmanship, it is a leading multi-platform media company with a diversified portfolio of publishing, broadcast, digital, entertainment, community and sports verticals. It has a pan-India network of offices with an employee strength of more than 3,000.

Lokmat is the largest read newspaper in Maharashtra with 20+ million readers (source: Total readership, IRS 2019,Q3) along with ‘Lokmat Samachar’ and ‘Lokmat Times’. The three newspapers have combined readership of 25 million (source: Total readership, IRS 2019, Q3). Keeping abreast with the changing digital landscape, Lokmat Media Group makes content available for its readers through multilingual news portal and mobile application.

It entered the TV space in 2008 and co-owns a 24-hour news and current affairs channel ‘News18 Lokmat’ (earlier IBN Lokmat), through a JV with the Network18 Group. Today, it is the most popular Marathi news channel with over 30 million average monthly viewers, known for its credible and premium news content.

Lokmat Media Group has launched forums like ‘Lokmat Sakhi Manch’, ‘Lokmat Bal Vikas Manch’ and ‘Lokmat YuvaNxt’ under Lokmat Connect to help fulfil the aspirations of women, children and the youth. These forums have empowered nearly a million members in the last several decades. Mrs. Jyotsna Vijay Darda was the guiding force & Founder President of Lokmat Sakhi Manch.

Lokmat’s experiential marketing division, Taplight organises various annual properties like ‘Lokmat Parliamentary Awards’, ‘Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year’ and ‘Lokmat Women Summit’, which are the benchmarks in their respective categories. It also provides comprehensive 360 degree marketing solutions including ‘Below the Line’ promotions and client led activations. Taplight is the largest event management company in Maharashtra by the sheer number of events it organises.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Group is engaged in various social initiatives aimed to help the poor and needy. It is also actively involved in helping victims of natural disasters and tragedies. Lokmat also works to highlight problems faced by people in its communities, bringing it to the attention of the concerned authorities for necessary action.

In its endeavour to reduce the carbon footprint & create environmental awareness among media houses, the group has set up 10 solar power plants across different locations in Maharashtra. Through this initiative, Lokmat became the first and only media house in the country to generate and use green energy for printing newspapers.
