Revenue dept takes several decisions to empower people, reveals Bawankule

To undo the injustice meted out to the slums and backward localities due to zone-wise determination of ready reckoner (RR) rates, the revenue department has now decided to undertake micro-zoning to determine the same in the cities. The move aims to bridge the gap in RR rates for properties and lands in developed and underdeveloped areas within same zone.

This information was shared by Maharashtra revenue minister and BJP State president Chandrashekhar Bawankule during a conversation with the Lokmat Times. Bawankule recently called on chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda. During the discussion, he gave details of various decisions taken by the revenue department. Yavatmal MLA Balasaheb Mangulkar was also present.

A special survey to determine the RR rates is currently underway across the State, with special emphasis on the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Under the existing zoning system, small houses, slums and chawls located next to posh buildings in developed areas are subjected to the same higher RR rates as the posh buildings. To address this, GIS-based micro-zoning will be done to define new value zones and revised RR rates will be determined, said Bawankule.

The revenue machinery is working to determine separate rates for slums, chawls, industrial areas, commercial areas and those under redevelopment. This move will help rectify the injustice to underdeveloped localities within developed zones, said Bawankule.

Additionally, land acquisition processes will be made online through a portal, and zone-wise and plot-wise RR rates will be available in PDF format, he added.

100-day action plan: Major contribution from revenue dept

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a ‘100-Day Seven-Point Action Plan’ in which the revenue department played a key role. Under the initiative of Bawankule, the foundation for strengthening the revenue machinery was laid, and several policy decisions were taken within this period.
