‘Lokmat Sarpanch Awards’ distribution programme held

Nagpur: The third edition of ‘Lokmat Sarpanch Awards’ function presented by ‘BKT Tyres’ was held at Hotel Centre Point, Ramdaspeth, in Nagpur on Tuesday. These awards are prestigious for the entire Nagpur district and cover villages in various tehsils like Bhiwapur, Narkhed, Ramtek and Hingna. Fifteen sarpanchs were honoured by the guests with Excellent Performing Gram Panchayat in 11 categories, Emerging Leadership award, Sarpanch of the Year award and two special awards.
Chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda, chief executive officer of Nagpur Zilla Parishad Saumya Sharma, president of Nagpur District (Rural) Congress Committee and former minister Rajendra Mulak, BJP’s Nagpur district president and former MLA Sudhakar Kohale, director of Lokmat Media Group Ashok Jain, state president of industry and trader cell of MPCC Atul Kotecha, area manager of BKT Tyres Zuber Sheikh, regional sales head of ‘MP Birla Cement Perfect’ Pankaj Singh, distributor of BKT Tyres for Vidarbha Deepak Bankoti, Cipla’s Rahul Arya, senior editor of Lokmat Samachar Vikas Mishra, editor of Lokmat Times N K Nayak and editor of Lokmat Shrimant Mane, were present on the occasion. 405 gram panchayats in Nagpur district had submitted proposals for ‘Lokmat Sarpanch Awards’. The winner gram panchayats and sarpanchs were selected on the basis of their yearlong performance, said editor of Lokmat Shrimant Mane in his introductory remarks.
Over 400 sarpanchs, deputy sarpanchs and members of gram panchayats of Nagpur district also witnessed this spectacular ceremony. ‘MP Birla Cement Perfect’ was the sponsor of this event while ‘Omnigel’ and ‘Society Tea’ were co-sponsors.
Along with former chairperson of education committee of Zilla Parishad and member Bharti Patil and ZP member Sameer Umap, jury board’s Nagpur divisional deputy commissioner Kamalkishor Futane, state president of Rashtriya Panchayati Raj Gram Pradhan Sarpanch Sanghatana Chandrapur Chaukse, media coordinator of information and public information department Anil Gadekar, principal of Nagpur District Panchayat Raj Training Centre Abhay Bansod and block development officer of Kalmeshwar Panchayat Samiti Anshuja Garate were present in the function. Poonam Tiwari conducted the proceedings while news editor of Lokmat Rajesh Shegokar proposed a vote of thanks.
Winner gram panchayats to get devp fund of ₹10 lakh
Taking cognizance of best performance of 15 sarpanchs presented with ‘Lokmat Sarpanch Awards’, the BJP’s Nagpur district president and former MLA Sudhakar Kohale announced that development fund of ₹10 lakh each from DPC will be given to their respective villages. He said that this announcement was being made after consulting deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Kohale also said that it is a matter of pride to appreciate the performance of sarpanches on behalf of Lokmat.

President of Nagpur District (Rural) Congress Committee and former minister Rajendra Mulak said that as a district president, he does party organisation work in rural areas. For the last three months, there was a discussion among the sarpanchs of various villages as to who will be the winner of this year’s ‘Lokmat Sarpanch Awards’. This shows the importance of this award. He appreciated the work of Khursapar’s sarpanch in Katol tehsil who was adjudged as ‘Lokmat Sarpanch of The Year’ along with award winning sarpanchs of all gram panchayats. He also announced to give ₹10 lakh from development fund of MLC Adv Abhijit Wanjari of Nagpur Graduate Constituency for the development of Khursapar village. He also made it clear that Wanjari has agreed in this regard.

Sarpanchs’ role is important in devp of villages: Saumya Sharma
Gram panchayat is the mechanism that implements various schemes of the government. The outcome of government schemes depends on the gram panchayat. Along with this, the role of Sarpanch is equally important in the development of the village, asserted chief executive officer of Nagpur Zilla Parishad Saumya Sharma. The ‘Lokmat Sarpanch Awards’ winning villages will get a new identity through this award. Basic facilities such as solid waste management, health, education, water supply, sanitation, roads are available through gram panchayats. Zilla Parishad will extend cooperation for this, assured Sharma.
