Chancellor’s Medal’ award ceremony: Aston-Symbiosis sign MoU to conduct high quality research

Founder president of Symbiosis and chancellor of Symbiosis International University Dr S B Mujumdar was honoured with the prestigious ‘Chancellor’s Medal’ by Aston University, a public university in Birmingham, United Kingdom, on Saturday. This is for the first time in 44 years that an Indian national has been selected for the honour by Aston University.

Dr Mujumdar was conferred with the coveted award at the hands of the vice-chancellor of Aston University, Birmingham, Prof Aleks Subic. The chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda, Sanjivani Mujumdar, pro-chancellor of Symbiosis Skills and Professional University Dr Swati Mujumdar, founder of Persistent Systems Anand Deshpande, his wife Sonali Deshpande, pro-chancellor of Symbiosis International University Dr Vidya Yeravdekar, Dr R Raman, former member of Rajya Sabha Anu Aga, industrialist Vitthalsheth Maniyar, chairman of Nyati Group Nitin Nyati, Air Marshal (retd) Anil Trikha, Dr Tutakhane, Arvind Chaphalkar of City Pride Multiplex, Rajiv Yeravdekar, former mayor Dattaray Gaikwad were prominently present on the occasion.

The Chancellor’s Medal of Aston University is a special honour given to the people for outstanding contribution in the field of education, research and world development.

With the latest award, Dr Mujumdar has made a place for himself on the world map.

Honour for Amod Yeravdekar: Amod Yeravdekar, who secured admission in MS (medical education), was congratulated by the dignitaries by cutting a cake. Similarly, Prof Aleks Subic presented a replica of a pen — the one presented by Queen Elizabeth II to Aston University — to Dr Vidya Yeravdekar.

The dignitaries also honoured Nitin Nyati for completing the construction of Symbiosis campus spread over 23 lakh square foot in record 22 months and the institute’s Nagpur campus spread over 21 lakh square foot in 22 months.

Dr S B Mujumdar has set a standard in the field of education. His contribution has earned him global recognition. Now it is the duty of all the educationists to act as a bridge to connect and remove the gap between East and West, connecting the world with the thread of education. It is the need of the hour to lay focus on quality education.

Dr S B Mujumdar is an institution in himself. He considered education and the future complementary to each other. Aston Research Academy constituted

Pune

Symbiosis International University and Aston University, a public university in Birmingham, United Kingdom, have jointly set up Aston Research Academy.

The academy, constituted deriving inspiration from IITB Monash, aims to focus on opportunities in businesses and other research challenges, and work to boost high-quality education. The academy will get funds from both the universities. The academy will have its office at Symbiosis International University, Lavale.

This was informed by the vice-chancellor of Aston University, Birmingham, UK, Prof Aleks Subic and pro-chancellor of Symbiosis International University Dr Vidya Yeravdekar at a press conference here. Provost, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Symbiosis International University Rajiv Yeravdekar, Prashant Girbane of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture, Dr R Raman and others were present.

The academy will establish a dialogue with industry partners for sponsored research, transfer of technology and trade. It will also underline the research based on the demand in the market. Training programmes, seminars and workshops will be organised to present research findings and the progress card.
