Our commitment is for Yavatmal’s devp, assures Dr Darda

“Over the last decade, Yavatmal has witnessed a significant decline in development with projects being stalled, youths seen with drugs and knives, crime rate increasing and unemployment graph going up. The cost of producing crops like cotton and soyabean doesn’t even yield returns. To change this situation, Yavatmal needs transformation. So, in this context, Yavatmal requires such  a representative who is strong, committed and connects well with the common public of the area. All these qualities are embedded in Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate Balasaheb Mangulkar from Yavatmal constituency,” said chairman of  editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda.

“Balasaheb is always among the people and well aware of local issues. Importantly, he will neither bow down to any pressure nor be involved in any corrupt practice. Our commitment is for the development of the region. So, if we want to see Yavatmal thrive, we must firmly support Balasaheb Mangulkar,” exhorted Dr Vijay Darda while addressing the Banjara community during a meeting held at Rukmini Mangal Hall in the city under the banner of the Sakal Banjara Samaj Sahvichar Sabha on Friday.

Dr Darda shared the dais with Mangulkar, Telangana MP Dr Mallu Ravi, MLAs Dr Rajesh Reddy and Vamshi Krishna, former MLA Kirti Gandhi, All India Congress Committee member Bharat Rathod, Jai Sevalal Sangharsh Samiti State President Shravan Pawar, Advocate Seema Telange, and others during the meeting. It was presided over by vice president of the All India Banjara Seva Sangh, Dr T C Rathod.

‘Proper planning can transform Yavatmal’

Emphasising the need for proper planning for the development of Yavatmal city and its surrounding areas, Dr Vijay Darda said, “For years, I have been advocating alone for the Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway line. The airport in Yavatmal faces similar neglect. If operational, the air service could have opened major markets for local agricultural produce and generated new employment opportunities. However, not a single local representative has addressed these issues. With proper planning, Yavatmal’s development could be achieved.”

‘Passionate leadership needed in constituency’

Yavatmal once had exemplary leaders like veteran freedom fighter and statesman Jawaharlal Darda alias ‘Babuji’, Deorao Patil, and Uttamrao Patil, who made significant contributions to the region’s overall development. Today, the constituency needs passionate leadership familiar with local issues. Currently, Yavatmal faces a severe lack of infrastructure, including inadequate and irregular water supply, with some areas receiving water only once every eight days, said Dr Darda. Jawaharlal Darda had established the MIDC in Yavatmal to create employment opportunities for the youth, bringing industries like Orient Syntex and Hindustan Lever to the area. However, these companies have now closed down. If I hadn’t intervened, even well-known Raymond’s unit would have left Yavatmal. The people of Yavatmal must seriously consider these issues. We seek power not for personal gain but for the development of the region and create jobs for its people, Dr Darda added.
