Textile minister opens Priyadarshini Soot Girni in Yavatmal
“The sudden fall in the price of cotton caused huge financial losses to its producers and this loss ultimately led to the closure of Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girni Ltd in Yavatmal. To revive the mill, a historic decision was taken to lease it on a pilot basis. Now, the mill has started with increased production capacity,” stated textile minister Chandrakant Patil and added that other closed spinning mills in Maharashtra would be revived like this one for which proposals should be submitted.
The minister was speaking as a chief guest during the inauguration of Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girni Ltd here on Friday.
President of Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girni and chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda presided over the function. On the occasion, guardian minister of Yavatmal Sanjay Rathod, former industry and school education minister and editor-in-chief of Lokmat Media Group Rajendra Darda, MLA Madan Yerawar, MLA Prof Dr Ashok Uike, commissioner of textiles Avishyant Panda, district collector Dr Pankaj Ashiya, director of Satyam Sprinters Bhupendra Singh Rajpal, Chetan Agrawal, vice president of Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girni Kirti Gandhi were seated on the dais.
It is pertinent to mention that veteran freedom fighter and founder editor of Lokmat Media Group Jawaharlalji Darda alias ‘Babuji’ had provided jobs to hundreds of unemployed people by establishing the Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girni Ltd in the backward area of Yavatmal.
Chandrakant Patil also said, “I feel proud and privileged that I have been invited for the inauguration ceremony of the mill that has over 6,000 farmers as members. Many co-operative spinning mills in the State have closed due to various problems. The textile department is trying to restart them.”
On special insistence of Dr Vijay Darda, permission was granted to lease out the closed Priyadarshini spinning mill. Earlier, sugar mills were allowed to run, but no such decision was ever taken regarding cotton mills.
“The experiment to lease out was successful regarding this particular spinning mill and with its success, a great opportunity has been regenerated for thousands of unemployed people. Therefore, instead of bringing proposals for new spinning mills, a positive decision will be taken for proposals to revive the closed ones and giving them on lease,” said Patil.
In order to reduce the rising cost of electricity, Dr Darda has demanded subsidies and the minister also assured him that appropriate decision will be taken soon by the Maharashtra government.
Guardian minister Sanjay Rathod, expressing his satisfaction, said through the Priyadarshini spinning mill, the long-pending dreams of residents of the district would soon be fulfilled and it was possible only due to the foresight of Dr Darda.
“There are many people who are doing good work in the cooperative sector in Yavatmal district. In the interim stage, due to the recession, some institutions were in trouble,” Rathod said and expressed his belief that the district will see more development in the cooperative sector in the coming years due to the new initiatives of the Central government and the Mahayuti government in promoting these institutions.
Earlier, Chandrakant Patil was welcomed by Nita Maske on behalf of the spinning mill employees, Ashwini Khadse and Ganesh Pisalkar on behalf of the workers.
Sanjay Mankar conducted the programme while Kirti Gandhi proposed a vote of thanks. Sahil Aggarwal, P K Raut and Abhijit Sen took efforts for the success of the programme.
Priyadarshini spinning mill achieved target, says Dr Vijay Darda
Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girani started in 2007 and has 6,000 farmers as its members. In just four years, the mill gained fame across the country. The mill was expanded in 2012 and it achieved the target of 28,000 spindles, said Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girni Ltd president Dr Vijay Darda in his introductory speech. Urging Chandrakant Patil, Dr Darda said, “There is a need to stand by those who work honestly. A decision should be taken to give a subsidy of ₹3 per unit in power bill to this mill like other mills.”
