In a democracy, everyone has the right to contest elections. But, ultimately, it is the public who choose their leaders. Therefore, it does not matter if your photo on the banner is big or small because what matters most is the level of your stature, said Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday.
He was addressing a gathering during the release of the ‘Lokmat Loknayak Coffee Table Book’, acknowledging the contributions of political leaders of East Vidarbha, and unveiling ceremony of the new logo of Lokmat Sakhi Manch on its silver jubilee year at Vanamati Auditorium here.
“Ye public hai, sab janti hai. Winning the love and trust of the public is a big test if one wants to be successful in politics. So, do your work in such a manner that party leaders are compelled to go to your homes with poll tickets in hand,” he said. ‘Loknayaks’ were honoured on occasion.
Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, former home minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh, former women and child welfare minister of Maharashtra Yashomati Thakur, chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda, director of Lokmat Media Group Ashok Jain, vice president of Lokmat Media Group B B Chandak, senior general manager (operations) and Nagpur unit head of Lokmat Media Group Ashish Jain, editor of Lokmat (Nagpur) Shrimant Mane, senior editor of Lokmat Samachar Vikas Mishra and general manager (advertising) of Lokmat Media Group Aasman Seth were among those present.
Wind blowing in MVA’s favour: Deshmukh
Former Maharashtra home minister and MLA Anil Deshmukh stated that Lokmat always strives to bring outstanding individuals in front of the society. Today, leaders from different parties were honoured through the Lokmat Loknayak. With Assembly elections just two months away, predicting politicians’ moves is a challenging task. Deshmukh also noted that the political atmosphere seems to be in favour of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) after the Lok Sabha elections.
Everyone should preserve statute: Thakur
Former women and child welfare minister of Maharashtra Yashomati Thakur emphasised the importance of preserving the Constitution. The Vidarbha region is rich in resources and intellect. Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj and Sant Gadge Baba taught us the true meaning of being a public leader. With Assembly elections approaching in the State, there will be competitions and disagreements. However, differences of opinion should not lead to differences of heart. Thakur also appealed to everyone to protect Maharashtra.
Lokmat’s predictions has come true, says Dr Darda
Chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda said 2024 is an election year with polls being held in 80 countries worldwide including the United States. The Lok Sabha elections has surprised many, and various exit poll surveys misjudged the outcome of the results. However, Lokmat’s predictions proved to be 100% accurate due to its grassroots system of public opinion. Thirty out of the total 48 newly-elected MPs to the Lok Sabha from Maharashtra this year were featured in Lokmat Loknayak. Dr Darda expressed confidence that many individuals those who have featured in Lokmat Loknayak will come out victorious in this year’s Assembly elections also.
