A network of roads including national highways has been created in every corner of Goa. Communication facilities have been developed in various parts of the state. The cheapest electricity in the country is provided in Goa. Due to all these facts, the state is on the path of progress, said Energy and Housing Minister of Goa and senior leader of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) Sudin Dhavalikar, here on Friday.

Dhavalikar paid a goodwill visit to chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda at his Yavatmal House residence. The deputy CEO of GMR Milind Paidarkar was present on the occasion.

During a discussion with Dr Darda, Dhavalikar, who was the Public Works Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for many years, said that the work of the Mumbai-Goa highway is nearing completion and now Goa has come closer to Mumbai and Konkan. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, a good network of hot mix roads has been created in the villages of the state. After covering a distance of 15 to 20 kilometers from any corner, one can reach the highway, he said. Road development has been of great help to the tourism development of Goa. Apart from this, connectivity to remote parts of the country has also become easier with the new airport. Although the state of Goa itself does not generate a large amount of electricity, it is a state that provides the cheapest electricity to its citizens. Domestic consumers get high-voltage electricity at a rate of `2.5 per unit, while industries get high-voltage electricity at a rate of `8-9 per unit.

This has given a boost to the development of Goa and there is a sense of satisfaction among citizens towards the government, said Dhavalikar, who looks after the conventional and non-conventional energy portfolio.

MGP trying to rebuild itself

Maharashtra has had close ties with Goa since the liberation struggle and even before that. After Goa became independent, Maharashtra continuously supported Goa during the Chief Ministership of Bhausaheb Bandodkar and Shashikalatai Kakodkar. Even today, Goa feels supported by Maharashtra. Dhavalikar said that the people of Goa still love the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. While growing it, efforts are being made to rebuild the party.
