Former prime minister Indira Gandhi had imposed emergency in the country in 1975 but then faced elections in 1977. The people brought her down from power. If Indira had wihsed she could have rejected the mandate of 1977 and seized power. But she didn’t do that. She apologised to the country and again faced elections in 1980, said founder director and election analyst of C-VoterYashwant Deshmukh. He further said that the people gave her power again because she respected the 1977 mandate.

A book analysing the 2024 Lok Sabha results titled ‘Ha Desh Amcha Aahe’, written by editor of Lokmat (Nagpur), Shrimant Mane was released at a function presided over by chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda, on Sunday. MLC from Nashik graduate constituency Satyajeet Tambe graced the occasion.

Deshmukh said, “After studying the elections in several countries, respect for the voters of our country develops. The outcome of any election may seem unexpected to leaders, but it is a mandate.” He analysed the results of the recent Haryana Assembly in his speech. Although the decision of demonetisation was wrong, many people reposed their faith in Narendra Modi. He said the 2024 results showed that Indian voters do not like arrogance, presumptions and neglect of mandate among leaders.

MLC Tambe said that extreme competition has increased in Indian politics and elections have become very difficult. He said that the objections against EVMs are also futile. He said that freebie politics is a wrong move. He expressed the need to improve standard of politics.

Kirti Kalmegh conducted the proceedings while news editor of Lokmat (Nagpur) Rajesh Shegokar proposed a vote of thanks.

Indian voters smartest in world: Dr. Darda

Expressing his views on the occasion Dr Darda said, he has closely studied the elections of many countries including the USA. He said that voters of India are smartest because they are always ready for experiment. He further said that the ideology of Congress has reached every village and thus, the party can never be finished off. Running a newspaper is a tightrope walk, where close friends become distant and those in power try to intimidate. “In one of my columns I had written that I am in search of a lost pen and am looking for an author, who has ink left in his pen. I am not a man seated in the cabin, I want a free pen. I am happy to share that Lokmat’s writhings have always been independent. I’m constantly on tour and hence know the pulse of the people,” said Dr Darda. While all the exit polls in the 2024 Lok Sabah proved wrong, the survey conducted by Lokmat proved to be absolutely correct, as common people expressed their inner feelings to Lokmat, he said. He said that the use of hateful language against each other in the country’s politics is highly condemnable. If politicians honestly follow the path of development of their constituencies and work for the people instead of freebie politics or caste politics, then people will accept them, he opined.
