Lokmat Media Group holds Goan of the Year 2025 awards ceremony

Lokmat Media Group has not only rendered extraordinary contributions in journalism but has also excelled in the social sector, said Goa chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

He was speaking at the Goan of the Year 2025 awards ceremony organised by Lokmat Media Group at Marriott Hotel in Panaji on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Dr Sawant honoured former chief minister of Goa Pratapsingh Rane with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda, Goa tourism minister Rohan Khaunte, energy minister Sudin Dhavalikar, health minister Vishwajit Rane, industries minister Mauvin Godinho, minister for animal husbandry Nilkanth Halarnkar, minister for social welfare Subhash Phal Dessai, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLA Digambar Kamat, industrialist Anil Khaunte, CA and proprietor of S Shah & Company and economist Jayendra Shah, senior general manager of Lokmat Sandeep Gupte and editor of Lokmat (Goa) Sadguru Patil were seated on the dais.

Dr Sawant was felicitated at the hands of Dr Darda for being the most successful leader of the decade. MLA Nilesh Cabral was honoured as outstanding legislator while chief secretary Dr V Candavelou was honoured for being the senior IAS officer.

Similarly Atul Bhobe was honoured for outstanding contribution award in providing best infrastructure and group chief and consulting editor of Tarun Bharat Kiran Baburao Thakur was honoured for his contribution in journalism.

Lokmat Sakhi is celebrating its silver Jubilee this year. Hence 12 women each from 12 tehsils were honoured with Women Achiever Awards on the occasion.

Lokmat took note of my work: Rane

Former chief minister of Goa Pratapsingh Rane said, Goa is a peaceful state. “I served Goa through active politics for a number of years. As a chief minister I did whatever I could do in the interest of the people,” he added. He said, now he is not active in politics and spending a peaceful life at his home. “I am thankful to Lokmat for taking note of my work and honouring me,” Rane said.

Lokmat is a movement, says Dr Darda

Chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda said, Lokmat is not just a newspaper but a movement. In a short span, Lokmat created a place for itself in Goa. Issues of all sections of society, basic problems of the people are raised through the newspaper. Some important news of Goa are published in other editions too, he said. The ‘Kujbuj’ column started by the Goa edition has evoked good response and therefore, the same has been introduced in all other editions of Lokmat, he informed. By honouring people doing outstanding work in different sectors, Lokmat recognises their work, Dr Darda said.
