Media is an important bridge between companies & consumers, says Dr Darda He was speaking on topic ‘Effective Media Strategies for Business’
Companies and businesspeople should check the credibility of the media while promoting their brand because latter form an important link between businesspeople and consumers. This results into growth of business while companies can elevate their brand, asserted chairman of Editorial Board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha, Dr Vijay Darda here.
He was delivering a talk at Pagariya JBN Mahakumbh on the second day here. The topic of his lecture was ‘Effective Media Strategies for Business’
Dr Darda guided entrepreneurs and professionals with various examples. He said, the success of any business depends on product and services provided to the consumers.
Marketing skills are also important. However, companies should maintain good relations with print, electronic, digital or social media and internet players, he said.
‘These relations should be maintained on continuous basis whether necessary or not. This is because media can provide a good solution to the various problems of companies by creating a bridge between them and the consumers, Dr Darda said.
“ We have been in the media world since 1971. If we consider the year 1947 or earlier, the role of media has always been important’’ he quipped adding, those who understand this tenet succeded in business. In this connection, he said the companies should compete with their competitors in
business.
Dr Darda said big business houses have sunk internationally. That is why companies should maintain proper network and connectivity with the media. Giving an example of Raj Kapoor, he said, “When I went to meet Raj Kapoor at his residence, he had gone to meet the new police station in-charge of his area. When I asked him the purpose of his visit after his return, he said he is an important figure in the area”.
Praising Pagariya, he said, “Pagariya grew up because he maintained good relationship with us”. Citing the example of Unilever Company, he said media multiplied the share of Rin soap by 1 per cent due to which social responsibility of the company also increased.
The share of tyre company BKT in Maharashtra went from 1 per cent to 17 per cent due to media. “We helped Amazon grow its business”, he remarked. Darda explained that brand building has to be done for growth in business. A 50-year-old brand like Lifebuoy can grow on an individual basis, he said.
He also gave an example of motor pump sold to farmers while selecting a right media. Today’s consumers, instead of being emotional are practical. It is the responsibility of print media to maintain their credibility.
A businesshouse needs to be in touch with the media even when it is not necessary, he said and advised the companies to not shun media and always align with regional media. Women’s participation in business is also a good thing. In this regard, he gave example of Lokmat Sakhi Manch which has a good connectivity. There are 5 lakh members of Lokmat Sakhi Manch in Maharashtra and Goa. Giving an example of power of media he said, The Fair and Lovely brand moved forward due to media by changing its tagline.
Schools and colleges are also linked with Lokmat Yuva Manch. Hence to increase business, ascertain the credibility of the media brand, Dr Darda urged .
At the end, Dr Vijay Darda was presented with a memento.
