Government recognises his contribution in the field of agriculture
“The President of India has announced ‘Padma Shri’ for pioneering advocate for sustainable farming and researcher Subhash Sharma. For the past several years, Sharma has been conducting various experiments in agriculture in Tiwasa. He is developing techniques to make agriculture profitable through natural farming. The path shown by Sharma is promising for farmers,” said Chairman of Editorial Board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha, Dr Vijay Darda here on Tuesday.
Agriculturist Subhash Sharma’s name was announced for ‘Padma Shri’ on the eve of Republic Day, in recognition for his contribution to the field of agriculture. In this regard, Dr Vijay Darda met Sharma at his farm in Tiwasa on Tuesday and felicitated him. Yavatmal Assembly constituency MLA Balasaheb Mangulkar, former MLA Kirti Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Darda Education Society secretary Kishore Darda also were present on the occasion.
Replying to the felicitation, Sharma said, farmers should become self-sufficient for which the focus should be on conservation of soil, water and environment. Sharma added that farming was done at Tiwasa without using any chemical fertilisers, pesticides and genetically modified foreign seeds. By doing this experiment, other farmers can also turn their loss-making farms into profit. For this, farmers need proper guidance. He said he was grateful for the award as it strengthened his resolve to promote natural farming methods.
Dr Vijay Darda praised the work of Subhash Sharma. “Subhashji’s father, Khetulalji Sharma, and my father, veteran freedom fighter Jawaharlalji Darda alias Babuji, had a very close relationship,” Dr Darda recalled. He said he was glad to see the farm and the crops that the ‘Padma Shri’ awardee had grown with great effort.
“Sharma now wants to share his knowledge with other farmers and encourage them to do the same,” he remarked. Expressing confidence that Sharma’s efforts will bear fruit, Dr Darda said that the award announced to Sharma is an honour for the entire Yavatmal district.
Anandrao Gawande, Vilas Deshpande, Devkisan Sharma, Subhash Yadav, Sunil Yadav, Jafar Khan, Kailas Sulbewar, Shankarrao Kajle and others were present on the occasion.
