Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very eager and committed to take the Indian culture and tourism to the highest level in the world and keeping this objective in view, the ministry of culture and tourism showcased the magnificence of the country’s culture and tradition to the globe during the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
This was disclosed by the Union minister of culture and tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat during a meeting with the chairman of the editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha, Dr Vijay Darda, in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Dr Darda along with the managing director and editorial director of Lokmat Media Group, Devendra Darda, called on Shekhawat and engaged in a detailed discussion about various aspects of Indian culture and tourism.
During the Kumbh Mela, the ministry of culture and tourism had set up “Kalagram”, a vibrant cultural village that showcased India’s rich heritage, a priority that aligns with the vision of PM Modi.
Shekhawat said, “Crores of people belonging to different religions and faiths converged at Prayagraj and visited the stalls at “Kalagram” which represented the grandeur of Maha Kumbh’s 2,000-year-old tradition, allowing the world to witness and experience the splendour of the country’s vibrant culture and rich tradition.”
While tourism is primarily a state subject, the ministry of tourism, under the leadership of minister Shekhawat, plays a crucial role in policy formulation and implementation of various tourism initiatives. Dr Darda expressed his confidence in Shekhawat’s ability to drive India’s tourism sector to new heights, believing that the minister’s leadership will bring unmatched excellence to the ministry’s efforts.
During the discussions, Dr Darda expressed his concerns that Sevagram, which is home to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram, is a place of immense historical and cultural significance but it is yet to be on the world map. He urged Shekhawat to prioritise this matter and work towards ensuring Sevagram receives the world recognition that it rightfully deserves.
During the meeting, Dr Darda also invited the minister to grace the prestigious Lokmat Sur Jyotsna National Music Awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Delhi on April 12, 2025. The minister has accepted the invitation to attend the annual musical awards ceremony, which is a significant occasion in India’s music and cultural calendar. The event will see the participation of renowned singers, artistes and distinguished personalities in different fields from across the country.
Dr Darda presented minister Shekhawat with the coffee table book on Lokmat Global Economic Convention which was recently held in Singapore.
