Dr Darda discusses issues related to devp of State with industries minister Uday Samant
The chairman of the Editorial Board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda has emphasised the need for providing substantial incentives to bring the automobile manufacturing industries to Vidarbha. He said establishing a four-wheeler, two-wheeler, or heavy vehicle manufacturing unit in Vidarbha will boost region’s overall development. He further stated that various ancillary units dependent on the automobile industry too would emerge in the area. Dr. Darda called on State industries minister Uday Samant, where they discussed the growth of industries in Vidarbha, among other issues in detail.
Dr Darda suggested that if the State government offers incentives to the automobile sector, the major players would prefer to set up their manufacturing units in Maharashtra instead of moving to other states. Currently, automobile manufacturers are not keen to focus beyond Pune or set up their plants in Vidarbha. The state government needs to take the initiative in this regard.
When Jawaharlal Darda was the industries minister of Maharashtra, efforts were made to ensure balanced development across all regions of the State. As part of these efforts, Bajaj Auto set up a two-wheeler manufacturing plant in Marathwada. Later, when Rajendra Darda became industries minister, he also made efforts to establish automobile manufacturing units in other regions. This led to the establishment of the Skoda automobile manufacturing plant in Marathwada, which in turn led to the growth of small and large factories producing automobile parts, boosting the development of the region. Dr Vijay Darda brought these facts to the attention of current industries minister Samant.
The state government recently announced investments worth `81,000 crore by major industries in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Konkan, and Western Maharashtra. Expressing satisfaction over this initiative, Dr Darda congratulated the industries minister and the Mahayuti government. He mentioned that the growth of industries across the State would provide employment opportunities to youths and commended Samant for the government’s efforts in promoting industrial development.
Educational institutions, hospitals should
not be subjected to industrial regulations
n Educational institutions and hospitals in the state currently fall under State industrial regulations. Managing director and editorial director of Lokmat Media Group Devendra Darda, who was present during the meeting, urged Samant that industrial regulations should not be imposed on educational institutions and hospitals. Responding positively, Samant and the executive director of MIDC Dr Vipin Sharma assured that this issue would be discussed in the department’s meeting.
n The five airports in Yavatmal, Nanded, Baramati, Osmanabad, and Latur have been handed over to Anil Ambani’s Reliance Infrastructure. Dr Darda urged Uday Samant to take control of these airports with immediate effect and develop them. He pointed out that the failure of Reliance to develop these airports has hindered the development of these districts.
n Dr Darda also suggested that Konkan should not solely rely on fishing as its main source of economy but should be developed with the focus on tourism. He stated tourism is an environment-friendly industry and developing Konkan on the lines of the Maldives could create thousands of jobs.
