Tourism development possible in Goa on the lines of Maldives

Greater job opportunities can be generated in Goa only through the tourism sector. Tourism should be promoted and expanded creatively and the planned international airport at Mopa in Goa should be used properly, suggested the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media and former member of Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda during a meeting with the Goa chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

While on a visit to Goa, Darda on Saturday called on the chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant at his official residence in Altinho. Goa Economic Development Corporation chairman Sadanand Shet Tanavade was present on the occasion.

When Darda asked what is his priority as the chief minister, Dr Sawant said infrastructure development is his first priority. “No doubt, we are developing bridges, roads, highways, etc., but job creation is my top priority. We want to solve the problem of unemployment in Goa,” he asserted.

Everyone wants a government job. More than one lakh youths are waiting to get jobs. Not everyone can get a government job, but the problem of unemployment needs to be alleviated, the chief minister said.

“You should focus on tourism business sector, start mining business legally and create employment opportunities,” Darda suggested, giving the example of tourism development in the Maldives.

Viewpoint needs to be put across properly

Noting that some projects were delayed due to the NGOs, the chief minister said the NGOs create hurdles in the way of development works. On this, Darda gave examples of the measures taken in some parts of Maharashtra and suggested that the chief minister should himself take the initiative and talk to the judiciary.

The environment must be taken care of. But the chief minister should also convince the judiciary how a project needs to be completed in the interest of the society. The government’s viewpoint should be put across properly before the court, Darda pointed out.
