Hectic activities have started to start the train from Wardha to Kalamb on the all-important Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded new railway line, which will be a boon for the development of backward parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada. The safety test of the 23.69-km Deoli-Kalamb route on Wardha-Kalamb line in Yavatmal district was completed on December 22. Now it is learnt that January 12 has been fixed for the actual start of the train.

Following the follow-up of the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda, the then railways minister Lalu Prasad Yadav laid the foundation stone of this railway line at Yavatmal on February 11, 2009. At present, 47 per cent of the work on this route has been completed. On December 22, the chief administrative officer of railways Avnish Kumar Pandey and DRM (Nagpur) Tusharkant Pandey inspected the line from Deoli to Kalamb. The safety test was conducted at a speed of 125 km per hour. The safety commissioner of railways Manoj Arora also gave the safety certificate to this line after due inspection.

An expenditure of Rs 3,445.48 crore is estimated for this railway line and a total of Rs 1,910.7 crore has been spent so far. Out of 2,138 hectares, 89 per cent, that is 1,911 hectares, of the land has been acquired. There will be 26 stations on this railway line of 284.65 kms. Out of these, four stations have been built and the 38.61-km Wardha-Kalamb route has been completed. It is reported that the train is ready to run on this route on January 12. There is also a possibility that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself will flag off this train virtually.

However, the railway administration is yet to confirm this officially.
