Tree plantation must for survival: Dr Darda

Chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda planted a sapling at ‘Tulsi Vrindavan’ at Prerna Sthal here in the memory of his mother late Matoshri Veenadevi Darda to mark her 98th birth anniversary.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Darda said, “The impact of climate change is increasingly being felt on all living beings including humans. In this backdrop, tree plantation is essential for a sustainable future.” Everyone must come forward and contribute to this cause, he appealed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on World Environment Day, launched a tree plantation campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. As a part of this initiative, millions of trees will be planted across the country. Responding to this call, Dr Darda participated in the drive by planting a sapling.

Dr Darda said, “I celebrated my 75th birthday recently and on the occasion, appealed to all members of Lokmat family to plant 75,000 trees.”

Trees are being cut on a large scale these days, Dr Darda lamented, adding that the number of trees axed in the name of development are not planted again, which is causing serious problems.

“Mankind would survive only if we plant and conserve trees. The monsoon season has begun and hence this is the ideal time. In the honour of our mothers, each one of us should resolve to plant at least one tree and ensure its survival,” Dr Darda emphasised.

Dr Darda’s brother and editor-in-chief of Lokmat Media Group and former Maharashtra minister Rajendra Darda also planted a sapling at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in the memory of Matoshri Veenadevi Darda.

Those present at the programme in Yavatmal included MLA Balasaheb Mangulkar, Kishor Darda, Seema Darda, Anandrao Gawande, Vilas Deshpande, Adv Mahendra Oswal, Subhash Yadav, Sunil Yadav, Devkisan Sharma, Jafar Khan, Javed Ansari, Rahul Sharma, Kamal Lunkad, Mandar Joshi, Shubham Barahate, Shivaji Ingole, Salim Sheikh, Shubham Landge and others.
