The railways will soon start a train between Wardha and Kalamb on the all-important Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway line section, which will be a boon for the development of backward areas of Vidarbha and Marathwada.
The Railway Board has decided to start a passenger train on this route and the schedule has been released, much to the joy of local people. However, the exact date from when the train would start has not been announced yet.
It is pertinent to mention that this railway line is a dream project of chairman of the editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda. He has been actively involved in pushing for the completion of the project and has been in constant touch with officials of State and Central governments as well as the railway ministry following which the project gained momentum.
It was because of Dr Darda’s efforts that funds were also provided for the project in which the Centre’s share is 60% while State government’s contribution is 40%.
On December 23, a safety run on 23.69-km stretch from Deoli to Kalamb was completed. After this, the Railway Safety Commissioner inspected this new railway route and granted a safety certificate, which paved the way for starting the train journey on this route.
