Initiatives undertaken by Sakhis in Maharashtra very useful: Prez Murmu
During a heart-to-heart meeting with the members of Lokmat Sakhi Manch, President Droupadi Murmu expressed her admiration for the Lokmat Media Group’s initiatives to empower women across various regions.
“Only women power can make the country strong and awakening ‘Nari Shakti’ is the greatest need of the hour. The programmes of Lokmat Sakhi Manch in Maharashtra are particularly noteworthy for their contribution to women’s holistic development,” Murmu said.
The President was interacting with the Sakhis at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Tuesday.
She noted that various initiatives undertaken by Lokmat Sakhi Manch in Maharashtra are extremely beneficial and inspiring for the overall development of women.
Platforms like Lokmat Sakhi Manch are the need of the hour. If women are happy, content and secure, then the home, family, society and the country will truly progress and become strong, she said. In this regard, the President specifically acknowledged the role of Lokmat Media Group through its Sakhi Manch, saying through the organisation of women, Lokmat Media Group has played a vital role in this endeavour.
During the interaction, the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda, while extending heartfelt thanks to the President, said, “We are extremely delighted that the Lokmat Sakhi Manch, established by Jyotsna Darda, has become a powerful platform for women and is receiving your blessings in its silver jubilee year. This is a matter of great pride for us. It will invigorate women of Maharashtra and Goa. The women who have come to meet you today have set remarkable examples in their respective fields and one of them has even been honoured with the Padma Shri award.”
In response, the President reiterated that it is essential to awaken the power of women as their contributions can strengthen the entire society.
Dr Darda further explained that today’s women are striving to become self-reliant and making valuable contributions in various fields. Lokmat Sakhi Manch is dedicated to empower them.
Dr Darda presented to the President a special coin issued by the Central government to commemorate the birth centenary of the founder editor of Lokmat Media Group and veteran freedom fighter Jawaharlal Darda alias Babuji. Prez appreciates Lord Buddha’s painting and its details
On this occasion, Ashoo Rajendra Darda informed the President that three lakh women associated with Lokmat Sakhi Manch are working together to contribute to the development and progress of their families and society. A painting of Lord Buddha, prepared by pen artist and photographer Rachana Darda, was presented to the President by Ashoo Darda. The President appreciated the painting and its details. When Purva Darda Kothari presented to the President a handloom saree, made by women from Maharashtra State Handloom Corporation in Nagpur, she affectionately asked, “What do you do?” Purva replied that she owns a company called Intrea Jewels, and designs jewellery and organises exhibitions in various cities of the country. She also informed the President that she has her own boutique in Mumbai. The President appreciated her work and extended her best wishes.
