Shinde vents out emotions during ‘Lokmat’ mega interview

We made a mistake by going against the mandate we got in 2019. The opportunity had come many times. But  unfortunately, we did not avail it. When it became unbearable, a political decision was taken when career was in danger. At the end of the day, there is a limit to the tolerance, said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Awards ceremony.

Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were interviewed by renowned actor Nana Patekar. Chairman of the editorial board of Lokmat Media group and former member of Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda was also present. The duo gave interesting answers to the questions asked.

It boggles the mind when unnatural things happen. I am foot soldier of Balasaheb. I don’t know what will happen next. Now we have to fight. I have decided I must fight even if I die fighting. We sweated it out for the party and did not even care for our own families. After realising that the party was being taken in the wrong direction, we requested five times to fix things that were wrong, Shinde said. However, he (Uddhav Thackeray) did not listen,” he said.

“We have not taken this decision very happily. People voted for BJP and Shiv Sena. The mandate was ignored to form the government with the opponents. We corrected that mistake three months ago,” he added. It took time to correct the mistake due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. We tried to explain the situation to them. But we did not succeed. We have now respected people’s mandate, said Shinde.

Which company came out now…

Shinde attacked  Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena without taking his name by saying it is not known which company has come out now.

Government is not formed on Facebook

Government cannot be formed on Facebook Live. For that, we have to come together and we came together and formed a physical government, said Deputy CM Fadnavis taking a dig at former CM Thackeray. This was against the backdrop of Thackeray going live on Facebook frequently. He also did not use to visit Mantralaya regularly. It caused ripples of laughter in the hall.

Jab main commitment karta hoon to…

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hit hard this time. “Once I give word to someone, I keep it at any cost,” he said. In Salman Khan style he said, “Jab main commitment karta hoon to main khud ki bhi nahin sunta…” the hall burst into laughter at this.

UCC will be introduced Says Dy CM Fadnavis

“We have Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Goa. It is being introduced in Uttarakhand. Guidelines of the constitution state every state shall endeavour to enact a uniform civil law. We haven’t been able to bring it yet. But we’re confident it should be and it will be introduced,” said Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

When Nana Patekar asked why we are not taking a decision on family planning the way the Kashmir decision was taken, Fadnavis said, “We have to think about this issue in Indian way.” Countries controlling population are facing different types of problems. It has to be forced somewhere. While doing this, one has to be aware that the population structure will not change or become one-sided. He said it was his personal opinion that a law should be brought for population control.

Until society learns to differentiate between good and bad, the situation will not change. Only one who has a criminal record is elected. If a clean, good candidate is given ticket, his deposit is forfeited. The society will also have to change for this purpose, Fadnavis said.

5K bogus affidavits seized

We have got the name as Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena. Let go of other things, Balasaheb is important. It has been accepted by the Election Commission. We should get the bow and arrow symbol on merit. Saying this, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “Someone is crying hoarse since yesterday that injustice has been done to them. They are responsible for having the symbol frozen by the Election Commission. The EC had given an opportunity to them to submit documents. The time was also extended four times. Now I learnt EC received 5,000 bogus affidavits.” Shinde revealed police had seized these bogus affidavits.

‘Our value depends on your trust’

At the beginning of the interview Nana Patekar fired a loaded question. Do we have value as voters? After voting once, we are scantly noticed for five years. We voted for you. Everyone must have voted for someone. What will we do if you do nothing? We will do what we want to do after five years, but what do we do before that? Either of you should answer this question. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded, “Our value depends on your trust. How will we hold value if your value drops? If the image in your mind gets damaged, how will you draw us closer?

“My entire career has been with the Tata Group. I joined Tata in 1986 as an engineer. After that, the opportunities given to me by the Tata Group have led me to where I am today. Thanks to all. I have been working with the Tatas for 36 years. This company gave me opportunities and challenges, and taught me values. I am very grateful to the Tatas and the city of Mumbai too!”

Jitendra Awhad
(Former Minister, NCP)

“In fact, I am very happy to receive this award. Because there is a difference between being in power and not being in power. Awards are given when in power, but thanks for taking notice of me when I’m not in power. I dedicate this award to Sharad Pawar who made me reach this far, and made the resident of a chawl the housing development minister. I also thank my voters who gave me the opportunity to represent them in the Assembly.
