The media is not immune to change and has undergone a revolutionary transition from the days of the print media. However, the reader remains the focal point and it is the duty of media men to deliver truth to readers, said the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda here on Sunday.
Dr Darda was speaking after release of the books of senior journalist Dr Vijay Pawar at Baburao Dhanwate auditorium.
The programme was organised by Vidarhba Gaurav Pratishthan. Earlier, Dr Vijay Darda released two books titled ‘Prasarmadhyame: Kalchi Aani Aajchi’ and ‘Vidarbha and Prasarmadhyame’. Among those present were Pratishthan president Girish Gandhi, senior editor Shripad Aparajit, coordinator Ajay Patil, theatre artist Rupali Mare and Shrikrishna Chandak. Dr Darda expressed regret over the change in the form, language and nature of journalism. While working as the president of the Press Association, the World Newspaper Group Association and Press Council of India, he was witness to the change. He felt that the readers’ preferences were being overlooked today. Influential people of some key nations decide what the media may print and this is very worrisome, he noted.
Dr Darda said one should be loyal to the organisation that he worked for. Running a newspaper is not an easy task, he said, adding that everybody had to follow decorum in life. He said he followed the principles of living life, managing relationships, fulfilling obligations and conducting business as taught by his Babuji, veteran freedom fighter and founder editor of Lokmat Media Group Jawaharlal Darda.
He praised the publications of Dr Pawar and said they should reach reading rooms and students. Shubhada Fadnavis moderated the programme. Nilesh Khandekar proposed a vote of thanks.
Jawaharlal Darda’s vision praiseworthy: Gandhi
Veteran freedom fighter and founder editor of Lokmat Media Group Jawaharlal Darda alias Babuji could have done any business but he decided to start a newspaper and it was his vision that made Lokmat the nation’s number one Marathi daily, said social worker and president of Vidarhba Gaurav Pratishthan Girish Gandhi. The accomplishment is visible but the efforts that went into making it what it is today, were often overlooked, Gandhi said, adding that it was a pleasure to see the ideals of tolerance espoused by Babuji being carried forward by the Darda family. He said Dr Vijay Pawar’s work was an important documentation of journalism in Vidarbha. Shripad Aparajit reviewed Dr Vijay Pawar’s books. He also shed light on the historic works of founder editor of Lokmat Media Group Jawaharlal Darda.
