Chess enhances mental strength, concentration: Dr Vijay Darda

The chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda said the game of chess enhances mental strength and concentration among the individuals. He was speaking during his visit to the ongoing Maharashtra International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament at Naivedhyam North Star Hall, Koradi, on Thursday.

Dr Darda who himself is a sports lover and organiser, said, “Chess is a game very different from other sports. If one plays chess right from childhood, it helps in enhancing mental strength and concentration. Chess can play an important role in nation building.” Congratulating the organisers for organising the international chess tournament in such a grand manner, Dr Darda said, “More than 800 players from 13 countries are vying for the top honours in the second capital which is the heart of the country. It is not easy to conduct such a big tournament in a smooth manner. Being a sports organiser, I know the difficulties the sports organisers face while conducting tournaments.” Earlier, Grandmaster and vice-president of Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA) Abhijit Kunte and other officials felicitated Dr Darda by presenting him a memento. The president of Nagpur District Chess Association Dilip Kamdar, vice chairman of the organising committee and president of Chess Association of Nagpur (CAN) Adv Nishant Gandhi were also present on the occasion.
