Vijay Darda demands time-bound programme for Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded rail line

The inauguration of the Nagpur-Shirdi section of Samruddhi Expressway was held recently. I congratulate the state government on this project. This expressway passes through 391 villages in 26 talukas of 10 districts. It promises to increase economic activity and generate lakhs of employment opportunities in this area, said the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media and former member of Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda. He demanded that the backward districts of Vidarbha along with Yavatmal should be connected with the Samruddhi Expressway to help them benefit from it.

He also stressed upon the need for a time-bound programme to complete the Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway line. He said the Samruddhi Expressway will definitely give a fillip to the development of Vidarbha.

The tribal districts of Yavatmal, Gondia and Gadchiroli, which are still far from development, should get direct connectivity to it. It can be connected to Yavatmal by two routes: Shivani and Devgaon Phata. After Nagpur, it can be taken further to Gondia, while the highway leading to Kage-Dharur can be extended to Gadchiroli, just as the state government has decided to connect Nanded city from Jalna T-point to expressway. Similarly, these backward districts of Vidarbha should get direct expressway connectivity. He further said the state government should show will power for that.

The Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway line is seen as a project which will connect Vidarbha with Marathwada. It should be completed on time. Vidarbha along with Yavatmal can benefit greatly from this 284 km railway line. Some 77 km of work of this project is being carried out by Central Railway while 206 km from Yavatmal to Nanded is being done by the Railway Corporation. The Central government has classified it as a special railway project.

Even after that, the work on the project does not seem to be gathering the required momentum, he said. The state government should follow up with the Central government and get this project completed quickly. There is a shortage of industries in tribal districts like Yavatmal. Therefore, the problem of unemployment is serious. Large industries like Hindustan Lever have already migrated from this area. Special efforts are needed to bring industry to the backward areas of Vidarbha including Yavatmal. For this, the state should build quality infrastructure in this area. Darda said he has made the same request to the chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Former MLA Kirti Gandhi was also present on this occasion.

Talks were held with the deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in connection with the Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway project. The work was delayed due to the non-availability of funds during the previous government. Fadnavis said he is personally looking into the matter and the work has been accelerated again. When a strong demand was made to connect the backward districts of Vidarbha including Yavatmal to Samruddhi Expressway, the state government sounded positive on it. Fadnavis said he is taking the initiative to take further action.
