“Shaheed Bhagat Singh is a role model for the people of India and every citizen of the country acknowledges his bravery. He made the supreme sacrifice for the country at the young age of 23,” said the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group and former member of Rajya Sabha Dr Vijay Darda while paying tributes to Amar Shaheed Bhagat Singh at his native village Khatkar Kalan on Thursday.
Stressing that the Union government should recognise the sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and officially give him the status of a martyr, Dr Vijay Darda said, “I will raise this issue with the government at every level.”
Dr Darda said, “My Babuji Jawaharlal Darda was a veteran freedom fighter and I have passion and love for those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of this country. The fragrance of the soil where Bhagat Singh, the brave son of Mother India, was born has drawn me here. I am taking this sacred soil with me and will keep it at Prerna Sthal, the memorial of my father Jawaharlal Darda in Yavatmal. I feel that the soul of my late father will be pleased. Through this soil, my Babuji will pay humble respect to Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This soil will inspire millions of people,” Dr Darda said.
Dr Darda said the contribution of Bhagat Singh and revolutionaries like him in the country’s freedom struggle can never be forgotten.
“Bhagat Singh’s extraordinary contribution can be gauged from the fact that the British Empire, under whose rule the Sun never set, was afraid of him. The martyrdom of Bhagat Singh had laid a strong foundation for the independence of Mother India,” he said.
Significantly, Bhagat Singh was strongly opposed to any kind of discrimination, economic inequality and communalism. Dr Darda said, “I have come here as a common citizen, not as a member of any political party. I am thankful to Fateh Singh Bajwa ji who helped me reach here and organised the programme meticulously.”
Senior BJP leader Fateh Singh Bajwa said he, along with Dr Darda, will raise the issue related to Shaheed Bhagat Singh at the highest level and get it resolved.
Earlier, the office-bearers of Jabar Virodhi Action and Welfare Committee welcomed both leaders with garlands and requested them to resolve its pending demands.
Dr Darda and Fateh Singh Bajwa paid tributes at the Samadhi of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s father too and visited his ancestral village.
They were accompanied by Rahul Bhatia from Uttarakhand during this visit. Despite heavy rains, a large number of people had reached the memorial of Bhagat Singh.
