Union minister plans several more attractions

Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari said he has several more tourist attractions in mind for the Futala area after the world class musical fountain-cum-laser show installed at lake.
He shared his plans with the audience during the pre-inaugural show of the fountain organized by Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) on Wednesday evening.
The city MP said the adjacent Botanical Garden would be developed as a high-class flower garden. “A renowned architect has prepared the plan for its facelift. A rose garden will be created, which would have 350 varieties of roses. I have sanctioned `50 lakh for this. A tulip garden would be developed inside a greenhouse,” he added. The minister has plans for facelift of Telangkhedi garden too. “A total of 265 varieties of lotuses would be planted in the Bhonsale era tank inside the garden,” he said.
A chowpatty would be developed on the banks of Futala lake. Watersports would also be started. Maha Metro is building a multi-level parking which will have space for 950 vehicles including, 600 cars. A food mall having 30,000 square feet area would be built above the parking where inexpensive food will be available. On the top of it, a revolving restaurant would be built.
Gadkari plans to name the fountain after legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and her mural would be installed on the stage. The shops below the spectator gallery will sell specialities of Nagpur including oranges, handicrafts, etc.

Dignitaries throng pre-inaugural show

Several dignitaries of the city besides Gadkari watched the fountain and laser display on Wednesday evening. They included chairman of Lokmat Editorial Board and former Rajya Sabha member Vijay Darda, divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B, district collector Dr Vipin Itankar, Maha Metro managing director Dr Brijesh Dixit, Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Yogesh Kumbhejkar and others. Actors Isha Deol and Zayed Khan, who were among the prominent audience of the demonstration, were all praise for the show.
