Announces Jyotiraditya Scindia during Lokmat event

Union civil aviation and steel minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday announced that the new terminal building for domestic air services will be opened at Kolhapur airport by March next year. “It is my personal effort to connect Pune airport with international air service and Kolhapur airport with all the major cities of the country,” said the minister during the ‘Lokmat’ event.

A coffee table book titled ‘Icons of Kolhapur’ brought out by ‘Lokmat’ was released and 42 icons from different sectors were felicitated at an impressive ceremony organised at Hotel Sayaji here.

Shahu Chhatrapati, higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil, MP Dhananjay Mahadik, Shahu Group chief Samarjeet Ghatge, chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media and former member of Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda, group editor Vijay Baviskar, editor of Lokmat (Kolhapur) Vasant Bhosale, assistant vice president of Lokmat Media Makarand Deshmukh were prominent among those present.

Scindia further said 20 crore people in the country now travel by air every year. “We are trying to take this number to 40 crore by 2030. As a part of that, I am trying to see how airports like Kolhapur, Chippi in Sindhudurg to Darbhanga in Bihar will be connected with the country’s aviation circuit,” the minister said.

Lokmat lauded

Jyotiraditya lauded the Lokmat Media Group on this occasion. Recalling the old relationship between the Scindia family and Kolhapur, Scindia said, “This is an emotional moment for me. Three generations of my family have been associated with the Darda family.  ‘Lokmat’ has made an important contribution by building credibility through the efforts of late Jawaharlalji Darda.

Shinde & chief ministership

“Jyotiraditya Scindia is a generous politician who works among the people. Even though he was educated abroad, his language is Marathi. His umbilical cord is attached to the Marathi soil. I will not say that he should become the chief minister of Maharashtra. But he has the capability to not only become the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh but also lead the country,” said the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media and former member of Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda, looking meaningfully at Chandrakant Patil. To this, Patil quipped, “Maharashtra already has Shinde as its chief minister,” causing peals of laughter among the audience.
