Three-day music festival in Yavatmal from Feb 10

A three-day ‘Swar-Jawahar’ music festival to mark the birth centenary of founder editor of Lokmat Media Group and veteran freedom fighter Jawaharlal Darda alias ‘Babuji’ has been organised at Yavatmal from February 10 to 12. The people of the city will get a chance to hear the legendary artistes in this festival which will be held on the premises of Anglo Hindi High School on Godhani Road in Yavatmal at 6 pm.

The festival has been jointly organised by Amolakchand Mahavidyalaya,

Jawaharlal Darda Institute of Engineering and Technology (JDIET) and Jawaharlal Darda English Medium School, Yavatmal.

Renowned classical singer Kaushiki Chakraborty will be performing on February 10. Famous playback singer Sadhana Sargam, who has gained fame in Indian cinema with her magical voice, will regale the audience on February 11. On February 12, the music lovers will experience the classical music of world-renowned sitar and ‘zitar’ player Niladri Kumar.

The chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media Group, former member of Rajya Sabha, founder president of Jawaharlal Darda Education Society and president of Vidya Prasarak Mandal and Hindi Prasarak Mandal, Berar, Vijay Darda, secretary and former MLA Kirti Gandhi, secretary of Jawaharlal Darda Education Society Kishor Darda, secretary of Vidya Prasarak Mandal Prakash Chopda, principal of Amolakchand Mahavidyalaya Dr Rammanohar Mishra, principal of Jawaharlal Darda Institute of Engineering and Technology Dr Ramchandra Tatwawadi and principal of Jawaharlal Darda English School Mini Thomas have appealed to music lovers of the city to take benefit of these programmes.

 

Kaushiki Chakraborty, Sadhana Sargam, Niladri Kumar to perform

Kaushiki Chakraborty is best known as an Indian classical singer. Born in Kolkata, Kaushiki started taking music lessons at the age of 2. She inherited classical music from the famous Hindustani classical singer Ajoy Chakraborty. She has performed at many places in the country and abroad. She has special talent in khyal, dadra and thumri singing. Other forms of Indian classical music are also handled by her. Her album ‘The Best of Kaushiki Chakraborty’ is very famous.

Sadhana Sargam is known as a singer who has given special touch to Indian film songs with her magical voice. She has done playback singing in over 34 languages. Her birthplace is Dabhol in Ratnagiri district. Her mother Neela Ghanekar was well versed in classical singing. She attended the Sawai Gandharva festival at the age of 4. She got her training under the guidance of gurus like Anil Mohile and Pt. Jasraj. She has sung many songs directed by Kalyanji-Anandji, R D Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Rakesh Roshan, Bappi Lahiri, Anu Malik, Nadeem Shravan, Anand-Milind, Viju Shah and others.

Neeladri Kumar is known as a famous instrumentalist who has created a distinct identity for himself world over. Kolkata is his birth place. He received sitar lessons from his father, the famous sitarist Kartik Kumar, in his childhood. He gave his first public performance in Pondicherry (now Puducherry) at the age of 6. He introduced his instrument electric sitar as ‘zitar’. Niladri Kumar has more than 20 national and international level albums.
