Punjab CM presents Darda with replica of Golden Temple

Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday unveiled the bust of veteran freedom fighter and founder of Lokmat Media Group Jawaharlal Darda alias Babuji.

Unveiling the bust, Mann recalled the works done by Babuji and said, “Many incidents of Babuji’s life like joining the freedom movement at the age of 17, going to jail many times and his contribution to Vinoba Bhave’s Bhoodan movement will always keep inspiring us.”

The chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media and former member of Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda was present on this occasion.

It may be mentioned here that Babuji’s birth centenary celebrations started on July 2 with a function organised at his birthplace Yavatmal.

Vijay Darda presented a copy of his book titled ‘Ringside: Up, Close and Personal on India and Beyond’ to the chief minister Mann. This was followed by a discussion between Mann and Vijay Darda on important issues. Mann introduced Vijay Darda to his wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur. Congratulating the couple who started their newly married life recently, Darda also invited them to visit Maharashtra. Earlier, Mann felicitated Darda by presenting a replica of the Golden Temple.

‘Will make Punjab prosperous again’

During the discussion, Mann told Darda that the Aam Aadmi Party government would leave no stone unturned to make Punjab a prosperous state once again. Mann shared information about his campaign against corruption, steps being taken to reduce the debt burden on the state and the crackdown on the drug mafia, among other remarkable works being done by his government.
