Former Union health minister and former leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis presenting Lokmat Times Outstanding Contribution to the Society during Covid pandemic award to Dr Pratit Samdani.

Healthcare sector needs improvement: Fadnavis

After the Covid pandemic, the country realised the importance of healthcare sector. The respect of medical professionals among citizens has also increased. Our country has achieved many things in the healthcare sector but more improvement is needed. Investment in this sector should also increase, said former chief minister and leader of Opposition in State Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis here on Wednesday. Lifestyle diseases are like a time bomb and India has become a hotspot for them. Immediate steps needed to be taken in this direction, he added.

Good health is real wealth: Nitin Raut

During the pandemic, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff worked for humanity. Many people lost their near and dear ones but it made us realise the importance of our health. Balanced diet and exercise were the need of the hour. Good health is real wealth, said the district guardian minister and energy minister Nitin Raut. Many top educational institutions have set up their branches here. The city has also become a medical hub. Lokmat Media Group has taken a laudable step to felicitate medical professionals, he added.

Rural hospitals need of the hour: Darda

Serving the patients is not a profession but a service. Medical professionals serve the humanity and spread light in the society. In spite of this, there is a tremendous scope for improvement in the healthcare sector. The rural areas lack even the basic healthcare facilities. The need of the hour is to develop hospitals in rural areas, said the chairman of editorial board of Lokmat Media and former member of Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda. During the pandemic, the Lokmat Media Group launched “Raktacha Nata’ drive and collected 60,000 units of blood. Lokmat has given equal respect to all and hence enjoys close relationship with them, he added.

Why no hospital mgmt institutes?: Dr Mahatme

The Lokmat Media Group has taken an excellent step by honouring the medical professionals. The society must take healthcare sector seriously. There are many institutes offering hotel management courses but none for hospital management, said Dr Vikas Mahatme.

One of the biggest social initiatives: Dr Deshmukh

The Jury Board chairman and senior physician Dr S N Deshmukh said this is one of the biggest social initiatives taken by the Lokmat Media Group because the doctors make a vital contribution in the society. He also thanked the Lokmat Media Group for selecting him as the chairman of the Jury Board, constituted to confer the awards on the doctors who give life to the patients. He further said that earlier the patients had to go to Mumbai or Hyderabad for the treatment of some serious diseases, but Vidarbha’s doctors on the basis of their talent and hard work have made the facilities available here. Nagpur is the heart of the country and it is a great honour to felicitate the doctors. The credit for the same goes to Vijay Darda for this initiative. “On behalf of the Jury Board, I am thankful to him for the transparent selection,” he added.
