The Sur Jyotsna National Music Awards are given away in memory of founder of Lokmat Sakhi Manch and an ardent devotional singer Jyotsna Darda on March 23 every year.
This year too, the awards ceremony was supposed to be organised at Suresh Bhat auditorium here on March 23.
However, in view of the rising coronavirus cases, it has been decided to postpone the ceremony.
The decision has been taken in the interests of the people whose health and well-being are of paramount importance, said chairman of the organising committee and former member of the Rajya Sabha Vijay Darda.
The award winners are selected by veterans from among the budding and talented singers at the national level.
In the past seven years, the Sur Jyotsna Manch has presented the awards to several budding and talented singers and musicians.
The awards ceremony for 2020 was held at Shanmukhanand hall in Mumbai on February 16.
It was also decided to hold the awards ceremony in Nagpur with great enthusiasm and on a massive scale.
However, considering the sudden surge in the coronavirus cases in Vidarbha including Nagpur since last week and the rising number of patients, it has been decided by the committee to postpone the ceremony of March 23.
In this context, it is essential that everyone should understand their responsibilities in the corona crisis, it was felt.
